Astrid Lindgren was a Swedish author who wrote many beloved children’s books centred on courage, friendship and justice. One of her most famous books is Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter (1981).
The book is about Ronja, the daughter of the robber chief Mattis, who grows up in a castle, Mattis Castle, in the middle of the forest. When she meets Birk, the son of a rival bandit chief, they become friends despite their families being enemies. Together, they refuse to accept the hatred between the bandit gangs and show that friendship, courage and a desire for peace can resolve conflicts.
The story reflects Astrid Lindgren’s message about standing up for what is right and having the courage to go your own way.
In the summer of 2026, Bentes Sommarteater will be staging the play *Ronja, the Robber’s Daughter* outdoors in the scenic surroundings of Eckerö. A perfect summer outing for the whole family. The play lasts approximately two hours, including an interval.
