During the period 2019-2020, 20 Åland hiking trails and paths on Åland were upgraded. They are usually light or medium difficult but can be very varied with rocks. One of them, the Lemland Trail, is about 25 km long and stretches from Lemström's canal to Lumparsund. The saddle trail is over 70 km long and runs from Hammarland to Geta via Finström. The longest trail, S: t Olof's trail stretches from Turku Cathedral in Finland through the Åland archipelago and across mainland Åland to Sweden, where the trail connects to the Viking Trail, Helgonleden and Stråsjöleden. S:t Olofsleden takes you on to Nidaros, now Trondheim, in Norway.
You can also choose to hike along smaller paths. No special equipment is needed, but sometimes it can be wet in the ground, so good shoes are recommended. Several of the nature trails are located in nature reserves.
With the help of a digital map, you get information about the route and the service along the hiking trail. Digital hiking maps are also available for areas Prästö, Bomarsund, Lemböte, the nature reserves Björkör, Jungfruskär and Sålis.
