The new production of "Katrina" exceeded expectations, offering a magnificent musical theater experience that takes the audience on an emotional journey through a woman's life in the Åland archipelago. With an impressive orchestra of 36 musicians and a choir of 25 people, the performance conveyed a gripping story of love, loss, and survival.

Based on Sally Salminen's novel, the plot focused on the life journey of a woman from Ostrobothnia in finland mailand, from her love affair with an Åland sailor to her fate as a poor crofter's wife in Vårdö. Under the direction of the talented director Ida Kronholm and with a newly written script by Kronholm and Carina Karlsson, "Katrina" succeeds in capturing the essence of Salminen's work in a way that touches and engages the audience. The producer is Barbro Sundback from the Cultural Association Katrina.

The musical is shown at Alandica Culture and Congress Center, located in the heart of Mariehamn within walking distance from the city's hotels and restaurants. The theater is presented in Swedish.

Roles are played by
Mezzo-soprano, from Ostrobothnia, Erica Back will play the lead role of Katrina. The role of Katrina's husband, the Åland sailor Johan, will be portrayed by baritone Leonarde Brändström. Soprano Therese Karlsson will play the role of Katrina's closest friend, Beda, and bass-baritone Philip Björkqvist will embody Captain Nordqvist.
