30th anniversary
The Hunting and Fishing Museum is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year and welcomes you to a market with archipelago inspiration both inside the museum and on the road below the museum at Käringsund fishing village. The museum offers the experience of how hunting and fishing over the centuries have provided the islanders and created a culture with the sea as a neighbour.
The market offers everything from tar burning and net binding to felting and fine carpentry. Eckerö Hembygdsförening and Marthorna sell coffee and Åland pancakes. Both Åland crafts and food crafts are on sale. Everything from organic soaps to yarn, ceramics and fish in some form.
For children, there is a herring market in the museum where they can play and dress up. They can also paint and cut out a fish to put in the large net artwork on the wall. There are also some activities for children in the market area.
Husö Biological Station will visit us inside the museum during the weekend and show some of their research and activities.
Neighbours in the area offer visitors water-based experiences, wildlife safaris and a seaside restaurant.
The museum is fully accessible to people with reduced mobility and has adapted toilets.
For the disabled, it is possible to park downstairs in the Viltsafari neighbour's car park.
Other motorists are referred to the car park at Eckerö-hallen!
