Train your "throwing arm" and book a disc golf trip to Åland! Whether you are a beginner or an inveterate disc golfer, this is for you.
Åland is investing heavily in disc golf and today there are 17 completed courses, but more are planned throughout the island, making the island's course density the highest in Finland and the world!
Disc golf is a perfect activity for the inveterate sportsman, the group of friends who want to do something fun over the weekend, the family with children or why not on your own. The project to build courses in Åland has been going on for many years and the first course was built on the archipelago island of Lappo in the municipality of Brändö, a perfect course to play when you want to go further out into the archipelago. In Mariehamn, a stone's throw from the Western Harbour, is Badhusparken with its 9-hole course. If you drive north, you'll come to Getabergen with beautiful cliffs and views of the sea. Check out the different courses at visitaland.com
How to play
Disc golf is played over 9 or 18 holes and the aim is to get the disc, also called a frisbee, into a basket which can be at different distances from the throwing point. As in regular golf, the aim is to get the disc into the basket with as few throws as possible, according to PAR. Playing on the Åland disc golf courses is free. All you need is your own discs, which can be bought in most well-stocked sports and toy shops, including some supermarkets around Åland. As a first-time player, you can get by with a simple disc, but after a few rounds you may want to try different types of discs depending on the playing situation, such as a lighter disc for the longer throws and perhaps a heavier disc for close throws, which, as in golf, is called a putter.

Travel by day
You can also go to Åland for the day and play disc golf. Käringsund DiscGolfPark with its 9 baskets is within walking distance of the Eckerö Line harbour. Distances are short in Åland, so wherever you turn the wheel you can reach a disc golf course within 30 minutes. Read more and see a map of disc golf courses at discgolf.ax
