In 2019-2020, 20 hiking trails and paths in Åland were upgraded. They are mostly easy or medium difficulty but can be very varied with rocky outcrops. One of them, Lemlandsleden, is about 25 km long and stretches from Lemströms kanal to Lumparsund. The Sadelin Trail is over 70 km long and runs from Hammarland to Geta via Finström. The longest trail, St Olav's Lake Trail, runs through our beautiful archipelago environment. The trail stretches from Turku Cathedral in Finland through the Åland archipelago and across mainland Åland to Sweden, where it connects to the Viking Trail, the Helgon Trail and the Stråsjö Trail. The St Olav Trail takes you on to Nidaros, now Trondheim, in Norway.
You can also choose to walk along smaller paths. No special equipment is needed, but sometimes the ground can be wet, so good footwear is recommended. Several of the nature trails are located in nature reserves.
A digital map provides information about the route and services along the hiking trail. Digital hiking maps are also available for the areas of Prästö, Bomarsund, Lemböte, the Björkör and Jungfruskär nature reserves and the Sålis battery mountain. Familiarise yourself with the paths and trails by clicking on the respective map.
