Last year’s show is back – “fantastic, magical, wonderful” were just some of the audience’s comments.
Let yourself be swept away by an evening filled with music, drama, history and the enchanting beauty of the archipelago! For the second year running, a full-scale opera is being performed at the medieval Kastelholm Castle, one of Åland’s most iconic landmarks. Over three late-summer evenings in August, Mozart’s timeless masterpiece The Magic Flute will come to life in this unique setting – and you are warmly invited to join us.
In the new production of The Magic Flute, you’ll meet some of the Nordic region’s leading opera singers. The opera is performed in Swedish, and the cast includes Sofie Asplund as Pamina, Markus Nykänen as Tamino, Suvi Bäyrynen as the Queen of the Night and Petri Lindroos as Sarastro. The roles of Papageno and Papagena are played by Philip Björkqvist and Elina Granlund. The production is directed by the festival’s artistic director, Dan Karlström. The Åland Festival Orchestra is conducted by Alberto Hold–Garrido, former principal conductor of the Royal Swedish Opera.
