The restaurant is mainly open during the summer months, but is also open for certain periods during the winter months. Whether you sit inside the restaurant or outside on the cosy outdoor terrace, you have a beautiful view of the entrance to Mariehamn, the museum ship Pommern and the guest harbour below. As a bonus, you get to enjoy the evening sun from the front row. At ÅSS you can choose to eat à la carte or a lighter option from the restaurant's terrace menu, or just enjoy a drink in the beautiful surroundings.
The building was designed by Lars Sonck and built at the end of the 19th century as a summer residence for the Åland Sailing Society's first commodore, the junior doctor K.V. Hällberg. Hällberg, who worked at the then spa hotel up in Badhusparken. On his death, the villa was bought by the Åland Sailing Society and moved to its present location in 1922, where it was used as a pavilion.
