Don't be fooled by its seemingly unassuming sausage kiosk. Rökka has even managed to make it all the way into a Japanese tourist brochure, giving tips on places to visit if you're travelling to the Nordic countries as a tourist. The kiosk has also been featured in the Swedish series Thicker than Water, which was filmed in Åland. Rökka also came third when the title of Ålandic dish of the century was awarded in the run-up to the centenary year of Åland in 2022.
"Three with bread, strong mustard, ketchup and cucumber" - these are orders you often get here at the kiosk. The homemade mustard, which is served with the sausages, has been made according to the same recipe ever since the kiosk opened in the 1960s. The recipe was given to the owner at the time, Runar Österlund, when he was working as a steward on a boat, where a Russian man taught him how to make mustard. Runar took the recipe for the mustard, which was probably Russian at the time, home with him to Åland and it has been a hit in the kiosk ever since! At Christmas, the mustard is sold in small jars, perfect to buy for the Christmas ham or to give as a Christmas present to the person who has everything.
The cucumber salad is also specially made for the kiosk and is only served there and is also sold in small tins. The kiosk also sells cool drinks, sweets and crisps.
