It is Åland's oldest sea lighthouse and has also been called the most beautiful lighthouse in the Baltic Sea. Until 1948 it was manned and in 1949 it was automated. Today it is powered by solar energy. The lighthouse is 39 metres high and there are 164 steps up to the lantern. In 2022, the lighthouse was completely renovated but has now reopened to visitors. A hiking trail with information boards runs across the island.
In addition to the lighthouse itself, you can also admire razorbills, which have a large colony on the neighbouring island of Norra Sälskär. Follow the hiking trail that runs across the island with information boards that tell more about the history of Sälskär.
You can get to Sälskär by your own boat or join a guided boat trip organised every week during the high season with the excursion boat M/S Silvana. The boat trip takes about 4.5-5 hours. Check availability and book easily online.
